Home Care Nursing

Home Health Care is the provision of health care services to people of all ages in the home or other non-institutional settings. The home care nurse is a registered professional nurse who directly provides care and educates clients and their families/significant others to allow independence and self care inside the home.

Home Care today includes high-tech care like chemotherapy, cardiac and maternal fetal monitoring, as well as, patient education and instruction in aspects of self-care like medication management, dietary modifications, and living with activity and functional limitations of disease.

The home care nurse practices in an independent, autonomous setting as a member of a multi-disciplinary team comprised of physicians; physical, occupational, and speech therapists; social workers; and home health aides. Home Care nurses use computers, cell phones, and beepers in addition to the other equipment nurses use.
